Senior’s Ministry
Our member, Nancy Hall, always finds crafts that the seniors can make, even though their motor skills are somewhat limited. We make beaded necklaces, Valentine’s Day trinkets, bracelets, Patriotic wall hangings for the major holidays, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas crafts. It is a wonderful ministry and all of our members who participate agree that we get more out of the visits than the residents! However, the residents will disagree with this assessment.
Blankets For Babies Nancy Hall, Inga Herring and Patricia Lawson show off the 50 packages of crocheted items donated each month by The Bridge East Gate Christian Church in Benicia. They also donate 50 packets each month to Sutter Hospital in Vallejo and welcome volunteers. This is an ongoing project started in 2000.
Hannah Nora Fowler became the first Solano County baby born in 2011. The first born child to Matthew & Riva Fowler. Seen here, is Nora wrapped in one of the layette sets made with love by our Blanket Ministry Ladies!
Kards for Kids The Bridge has a new ministry! We are collecting gift cards and donations to purchase gift cards for students in Pastor Flint’s math classes at Bret Harte Middle School in Oakland. Visit the Bret Harte Middle School Website
If you’d like to help make a difference in these young lives, give giftcards (supermarkets have tons of choices!) or cash donations to Ashley Houston or one of our staff members. |
The Bridge at Eastgate Christian Church has a senior’s ministry. We visit the Fairfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center once per month to do crafts with the seniors, sing, share communion and pray for their needs. Our member, Laura Dunn, has been a resident since 2003 and our ministry started after her admittance. We love every resident who joins us on the 4th Sunday of each month. Debbie and Lil schedule our visits and make us feel very special and the residents are always so happy to welcome us into their “home”.

As of January 2011, ladies from The Bridge have produced and delivered over 2000 hand crocheted caps and blankets to the Sutter-Solano Hospital in Vallejo. Each month approximately 75 baby blankets and matching caps are delivered to mothers who might otherwise receive nothing for their newborns. Nancy Hall, Patricia Lawson and Inge Herring are the primary producers of these precious gifts to low income families.
One of the greatest motivators to improve student behavior is to provide an incentive or reward for appropriate behaviors that occur over a defined period of time. Students will receive gift cards to McDonalds, Barnes and Nobles Bookstores, Target and other establishments where kids can purchase items they might not otherwise be able to afford.
